UMBANDA GIRA
December 8tH & 10th 2023
SAN MARCOS LA LAGUNA | LAKE ATITLAN
GUATEMALA
UMBANDA MEDICINE CIRCLES
These ceremonies are intended to be a gateway into your innermost center, holding space for the deepening of your journey of connection of Self to the forces of nature.
within the frame of the gira we will be guided into both, a theoretical as well as empirical study of the tradition of umbanda and the consecration of its sacred medicines.
GIRAS
Traditionally the name for this type of ceremony is called GIRa, which means to circulate or to dance around. It is a powerful ritual to call in the Divine spirits that are invoked so we may be able to learn from them humbly.
It is different from many traditions, where we sit in stillness. instead, the ritual of a GirA IS an invitation to move, connecting with the channel to allow the orixás express through us and our dance, chants and clapping.
these are dancing works using percussion, guitars and maracas.
as participants we are invited to join in the spirit of elevating our prayers through guided Chanting, invocations, hymns, and prayers that invite these forces to materialize and teach throughout the ceremony.
what to Expect?
-
in the mornings before the ritual please take your time to breathe and move and spend time in nature if possible, to prepare yourself for the profound journey of self-knowledge that we embark on together
-
in the giras We will consecrate the sacred medicine and prepare our offerings to the orixás to allow ourselves to commune with these forces of nature in an embodied experience.
we are leading daytime rituals that include the study of:
the seven lines of umbanda and their archetypal correspondence
the role, importance and application of music, rhythm, chanting and dance in umbanda and the medicine of axé [reciprocity]
the sacred tools of umbanda and their application in ritual
all of the above are sacred tools we will be lead into experiencing through words and teachings as well as self study through embodied experiencing in the ritual.
-
in the evenings after ceremony we will share sacred foods in community and open the space for sharing of songs or to utilise the temazcal if you so desire.
we take our sacred time to integrate our experiences and honour each others spaces.
our leaders and guides will be available for support after the works.
